Like adults, children should visit a pediatric dentist at the first appearance of the teeth and then a check from time to time or as directed by the pediatric dentist.
The pediatric dentist will: identify early defects or lesions in the teeth and surrounding tissues such as tongue, lips, gums, palate, etc. .. By detecting any problems in advance we have the advantage of being able to adequately manage and avert or prevent future problems.
Primary teeth : The teeth of the primary dentition (commonly called milk teeth) is 20, which helps the child to have good nutrition and play an important role in the development of the jaws, language development, appearance and personality in the child, help the proper eruption of permanent teeth and the latter's position in the dental arch.
Prevention : The goal for all pediatric dentists is to encourage their patients a healthy mouth, with full dentition and supported gums and bones, in addition to a balanced and stable occlusion.
Fluor : It is important the pediatric dentist provides fluoride applications for children between 6 and 10 years of age. For the following reasons: Fluoride increases the resistance to bacterial attack tooth enamel as it strengthens its structure which prevents its destruction. It also has a destructive effect against plaque. Partially inhibited acid production of bacteria and has a toxic action on them.
Pit and Fissure Sealants : Is the clear or colored resin applied to teeth to help keep them free of caries. Even with good brushing in some cases it is impossible to clean the small pits and fissures of some molars. Sealants close the pits and fissures on the tooth surfaces and serve as a protective barrier against food and bacteria, thus reducing the risk of caries.

Oral Hygiene:
The frequency of meals, sugars and food consistency, as well as oral hygiene, are critical factors in the development of caries. Foods that for their consistency adhere to the teeth are at most risk, by being cryogenic, plus they have a low masticatory activity.
It is necessary to clean the teeth from the time the first teeth erupt (about 6-8 months old). Usually the child tries to wash them alone from 3 years of age, however, they won’t clean them properly until age 8 and on.
